salaam
hey everyone... this place is like, hmm, exciting. haha
jus wanted to clarify that, ok, im NOT back. i tnk i injured myself again during that labour day game. too long out of action, plus an under-strengthened leg led to some strained knees which haven't gone away after more than a week. just in case ppl wondering...
anyway, to post a thought, since it's super sunday.... or survival sunday for some...
ppl keep saying that the EPL is the strongest league, rite? (well, actually, i tnk it was like the more popular european league, and then it became the strongest league due to that popularity... ok, it could have been in the 80s and early 90s, but they were banned from europe and the italians caught up, somethin like that.)
aaanyway, was watching TV, and thought, apart from all the other common reasons we hear of, here are two simple and practical and technical reasons why people like to watch EPL, at least on TV here in Singapore, perhaps why the EPL has made up for those years lost in the 80s and finally have an all-English UCL final....
the commentators are simply more interesting and exciting. try getting a spanish or italian league english-language commentator to do the voice-over for a soccer video game. i'll go play Pac-man. mebbe, if the japanese could speak more english, the J-league could gain more popularity ie. via the espn route etc.
the crowds are louder... no matter how loud our Kallang roar is, its always reduced to a meow when its on TV. why? the difference is, the english pitches, i noticed, have those microphones around the pitch, those woolly, brushy things, and they pick up all the sounds... that's how i can sing Man U songs while watching at home, cos u can hear the blinking tune. try the Nou Camp or Bernabeu.. u won't hear a thing.
hahah.. so yeah, just a thought... cos i was thinking that Rijkaard would have been a mouse if he said that the Barca supporters were demanding... but when u watch on TV, u only hear faint whistles like they're girls trying to pick up Bojan, or u see flying white hankies thinking that its like a Tibetan mountain-top which ran out of colour.
some random stuff as a prelude to the Man U win tonight. all the best for the coming games, guys...
and ps. looking from the labour day game, i think we all, inc myself, have to improve on our first touch ah, hahah. we dun wanna be too English, do we? ;)
